Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to join The Telegraph’s Group Legal team.

The main purpose of the position is to manage and deliver high-end contractual and advisory support for the business ensuring its goals are met. You will be in the thick of industry-leading and business-critical projects and deals. The role is fast-paced, and you will work on many different contracts/areas; making this a varied position that is different every day. This is a hands-on role where business acumen, stakeholder management, and excellent drafting will be required alongside legal analytical skills.


Key responsibilities
  • A broad range of commercial contracts relating to content, technology, IP, advertising (including ad-tech), data protection, e-commerce, distribution, production, competitions, and promotions.
  • Structure, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements relating to the above, the distribution of content on multimedia channels from traditional print and website, to mobile platforms and social media channels.
  • Advice and counsel on a variety of business, legal and regulatory matters, including ASA/CAP Code amp; data protection.
  • Understand and critically evaluate multifaceted agreements and concisely and precisely distill information for clients
  • Independently manage transactions from inception through conclusion
  • Supervise professional staff and outside counsel as necessary

Essential and desirable skills required for the role
  • Relevant in-house or law firm experience
  • Excellent drafting, with an emphasis on plain English drafting, negotiation and organizational skills
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of contract and general commercial law is required.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property, technology, privacy and internet, and consumer protection laws are strongly preferred
  • A good understanding of data protection legislation is strongly preferred.
  • Good commercial acumen and knowledge of industry practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, good team player and good team leader
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal clients and external parties
  • Ability to manage a high volume of transactions, work to tight deadlines and work independently.
