Job Description

Biffa PLC is currently on the lookout for a Multi Skilled Operative. The role holder, reporting directly to the Supervisor will be responsible for the operation of mobile plant, housekeeping activities, basic maintenance and cleaning of fixed process plant, associated record keeping, in compliance with site licences/PPC Permits and health and safety legislation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Operation of Fork Lift Trucks, Front end Bucket loader and 360 excavators to unload and load vehicles, stockpile materials, feed the process plant, store finished products, load outgoing vehicles; carry out housekeeping and maintenance activities and any other tasks required.

• Carry out daily maintenance and record keeping for mobile plant and plant equipment.

• Carry out housekeeping activities in all areas of the site.

• Carry out basic maintenance and cleaning on fixed process plant under the direction of Supervisor and Ops Manager.

• Carry out daily operations on site as directed by site management.

• Carry our regular inspections of site infrastructure.

• Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic in all internal areas.

• Liaise with BWS and external hauliers to ensure timely dispatch of materials from site.

• Liaise with Supervisor to ensure timely supply of process consumables to minimise process downtime and maximise throughput.

• Taking due care for the safety of self and others in accordance with health and safety legislation, company procedure and toolbox talks. Reporting of any safety or environmental issues to site management.

• Attend site safety meetings/toolbox talks when required.

• To carry out any other reasonable job related tasks.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The job holder will be responsible for taking part in all operational requirements with the SWaRF Facility and be willing to be trained and developed in all areas where required. They will be expected to work on their own initiative and as part of a team in supporting the management structure to achieve all sites goals and objectives. The job holder must be very self motivated and have a flexible and positive approach to their work and role.

They must be able to show initiative and be proactive in both human and operational areas to make sure the site is achieving its full potential in all areas. The job holder must meet all customer requirements and make sure all product/material that enters the site is destroyed/disposed of in accordance with customer requests whilst doing everything possible to make sure the product/material does not re enter the market. Wherever possible they must be able to deal with customers in a professional manner and represent the business well to keep/win new business and have a customer orientated approach.

The job holder must make health and safety of themselves and others a priority and assist in creating a good health and safety culture on site by raising all hazards and near misses when spotted and showing an interest and taking part in all training and Toolbox talks. The job holder will need to undertake a full CRB check before commencement of their contract with Biffa.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.

• Operation of Fork Lift Trucks.

• Front End Bucket loader shovel

• 360 Excavator tracked and wheeled

• Knowledge of plant operations.

• Understanding of health and safety issues.

• Good customer service skills.

• Good organisational skills.

• Ability to work on own initiative with little supervision or flexibly part of a team.

• Flexible attitude to work.

• Positive and highly committed approach to promotion of good health and safety practice at work.

• Identify potential safety and environmental issues on site and report these to site management.
