Job Description

Opportunity Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to step into DCX’s Head of Product role for a 9-12 months maternity cover. This individual will be responsible for leading our team of Product Managers as we deliver the exciting digital customer journey changes we talked through at the recent Digital Conference, whilst also playing a key leadership role across the tribe and supporting our technology transformation.

This is an extremely exciting time to step into this role as we are about to embark upon a multi-year journey of transformation with the aim of becoming market-leaders once again. Improving DCX is one of the four key strategic areas of focus for The Very Group and this individual will play a critical role in making our tribe a fantastic place for our people to be, transforming our technology and creating a digital customer experience we can be proud of.

Scope of Role

You will be responsible and accountable for our digital customer experience across all brands and devices, and will work with our Head of Delivery and Head of Technology to drive forward our vision and ensure our roadmaps and backlogs support both our customer journey and technology estate in parallel.

Detailed knowledge of product management is essential and experience leading product specialists in a large-scale and fast-moving digital business is desirable.

Stakeholder management is also a critically important skill as our Head of Product plays a key role in balancing the needs of DCX and the needs of the wider business to ensure we’re always maximising the value we unlock for our customers, colleagues and shareholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the DCX Product Team in defining a clear vision and prioritising and planning relevant roadmaps.
  • Maximise value creation through the evaluation and prioritisation of new product features and functionality.
  • Responsible for the delivery of the DCX product backlog to maximise the early delivery of business value.
  • Use customer insight and research to ensure the customer is central to product development.
  • Understand changes in the external environment including market trends, tech innovation and competitor developments to find better ways to serve customers and deliver business value.
  • Agree and manage the overall budget for product development within the DCX tribe.
  • Regularly update all stakeholders on value delivered and opportunities for further investment.
  • Liaise with all areas of the business to agree Cross-Tribe product roadmaps and priorities, and to resolve any day-to-day operational issues
  • Recruiting, managing and developing the DCX Product team.
  • Understand the big picture: the wider implications of any decisions made, and any governance, compliance and regulatory responsibilities.
  • Contribute to community forums and tech showcases to share knowledge, learn from mistakes and drive innovation to improve change delivery across the whole business. Also, using this forum to celebrate successes.
  • Foster careers and building talent/capabilities both through internal pipelines and external hiring.
  • Set very clear priorities for team members and provide timely and quality/regular feedback on those priorities.

Requirements

What are we looking for?

Our #1 priority is to find somebody who can offer the right level of coaching and pastoral support to our incumbent Product Management team, whilst also playing a key role as part of the DCX Leadership Team (working alongside our Head of Delivery and Head of Technology).

Beyond that we are looking for an individual who has significant experience of building and maintaining complex product backlogs with cross-tribe dependencies, along with the stakeholder management skills to manage the healthy tension and competing priorities that will inevitably present themselves in such an ambitious and dynamic environment.

This person will need to be a natural problem solver with strong commercial acumen, and also a strong people leader who can galvanise a team behind a strategic direction.

Practical experience of delivering change utilising agile principles is essential, and experience of large-scale transformation is desirable.

Finally, we are looking for an engaging communicator who can talk to the tribe, wider organisation and external stakeholders about the journey DCX is going on and land the message in a credible and inspiring way.
