Job Description

Based near Cambridge, UK, SPT Labtech is a global supplier of innovative and enabling products for the drug discovery and drug development markets. We create, design and manufacture high quality, robust and innovative automated laboratory equipment for academic, pharmaceutical and biotechnology research.

SPT Labtech is constantly improving our robust, reliable and easy-to-use solutions for life science thanks to our dedicated Ramp;D team. The CryoEM grid development team are responsible for producing the consumables for our new flagship product range. It is composed of a multiskilled team of scientists and engineers whose work covers product innovation, development and production upscaling. We are looking for a CryoEM Technician to join our Development Team on a 6 month fixed term contract.

The role will involve:

  • QC analysis of consumables produced by the development team
  • Testing materials using mechanical, optical and chemical analysis equipment
  • Fabricating prototype consumables for our new flagship product range
  • Contributing in designing experiments to optimise the performances of our devices
  • Reporting of results.
  • The technician will be mostly working in the lab, use analytical equipment and must have a good computer literacy (Microsoft Office etc.).


Requirements

Practical lab-based experience is desirable, particularly in chemistry and cleanroom environments. Part of the role requires tweezer handling of delicate components and a high degree of manual dexterity is essential along with great attention to detail. Experience in the analysis of experimental data is required although additional training will be given where necessary


Some working knowledge of carbon and polymer thin films and photolithography or nano-imprinting would be useful but not essential.

Applicants should be comfortable working productively in a fast moving, sometimes ambiguous environment with sustained work pressure. The successful candidate will be a self-starter able to succeed with minimal support functions using personal networks and team work to achieve results. They will be comfortable working in an informal atmosphere with an international style culture.
