Job Description

DWP are seeking a Digital Delivery Manager Senior to join their team. This role is home working until restrictions ease, after which the successful candidate should be commutable to Newcastle.

Initial contracts will run for 6 months and offer a rate up to 550/day.

IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. This engagement has been assessed by the public body as Inside IR35 legislation. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement.

Main Responsibilities

  • Help high performance teams to continuously improve, share information and set standards for other teams.
  • Helps develop and utilise meaningful metrics in order to drive teams towards their goals and understand areas for improvement.
  • Leads by example, acting as a servant-leader demonstrate the right behaviours. Deals with conflict and helps establish a team culture that allows for constructive criticism.
  • Owns and builds relationships with the technical teams, Product Owners, senior stakeholders, management and third party sub-contractors utilising effective and appropriate governance mechanisms. Managing complex team dynamics between external and internal stakeholder groups to ensure the team is aligned to and understands the same objectives.
  • Supports the Product Owners to define and build the digital delivery roadmap and translate into an achievable backlog.
  • Drive the creation of the business case for complex projects, co-ordinate activities across stakeholder groups. Iterate the business case throughout the lifecycle of the project. Establishes good practices to be followed when building and maintaining a business case.
  • Design, facilitate and lead workshops, meetings with a variety of stakeholders, driving out outcomes and establishing the pace of delivery.
  • Manage risks, issues and dependencies (external and internal) and help resolve escalations from junior members of the agile delivery manager community.
  • Drives the pace of delivery across projects and programmes, responsible for owning key blockers till they are resolved and guiding other members of the delivery community to help them deliver effectively.
  • Able to recognise when to move from one stage of the product lifecycle to another, ensuring the team is working towards the appreciate service standards.
  • Manage external assurance groups, that they are appropriately engaged and aware to enable them to avoid any risks related to formal approvals.
  • Ensure funding is in place and track spending and forecasts regularly and accurately.
  • Leads agile events across multiple projects and sets the standards for agile project management, ensuring business and delivery teams are working to a common, shared objective and vision to deliver specific outcomes.
  • Establish standards of agile practices for the agile delivery manager community, continuously improve the agile methods and tools used by the community.
  • Work directly with multiple suppliers to manage complex commercial relationships.
  • Take an active role in the agile community, taking responsibility to help organise events across the practice. Attend and present at external events, be regarded as the expert in agile delivery and identify best practices. Support and educate members of other business and IT divisions on agile principles, methods and tools and how best to work with agile teams. Sets and raises the standards of agile practices within the community of agile delivery Managers.
  • Encourage and nurture a culture of working in an agile manner utilising agile delivery principles.
  • Leads recruitment activities for the practice from the internal or external market.

Technical Skills

  • Able to identify and compare the best processes or delivery methods to use, including measuring and evaluating outcomes. Able to recognise when something does not work and encourages a mind-set of experimentation. Can adapt and reflect, is resilient and has the ability to see outside of the process. Able to use a blended approach depending on the context. Able to help teams to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work and work to agreed minimum viable product (MVP).
  • Able to listen to the needs of the technical and business stakeholders and interpret between them. Capable of proactive and reactive communication.
  • Able to apply experience of multiple parts of the lifecycle. Able to recognise when it is right to move forward and when it is right to stop. Able to recognise the appropriate deliverables and the right people to meet these. Able to work with other agile delivery operations throughout the product lifecycle. Able to plan and engage with the appropriate stakeholders at a particular stage in the project.
