More than half of the buses that you see on the roads in the UK are made by Alexander Dennis. Globally, there’s over 25,000 people every minute, of every day using our products. That’s a lot of responsibility we have for keeping the world moving.

At Alexander Dennis we design, engineer, build and support the widest range of market leading buses and coaches using low, ultra-low and zero emission technologies. We have extensive experience in vehicle supply and support across Europe, Asia Pacific and North America, with a near 50:50 revenue split between UK and international markets.

We are excited about the opportunities arising from the global push for lower pollution and better air quality. The UK Government as well as many others around the world have committed to aggressive but achievable decarbonisation agendas and at Alexander Dennis, we are ready to deliver the green buses needed to transition to cleaner transport.

Our Operations teams are responsible for building and completing vehicles to specification, within the agreed timeframe and to a high-quality standard. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for manufacturing, fitting and rectification of components or sub-components for vehicle assembly. This includes the wiring and testing of harnesses, sensors, assemblies, circuit boards etc., ensuring all activities meets the required safety standards.

Why join:

  • You’ll have an interesting and technically challenging workload from day one, where you will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced and established team.
  • It’s a dynamic, fast paced environment where no two days are the same, where you will have the opportunity to work cross functionally with colleagues towards a common goal.
  • You’ll take great pleasure in being able to see the tangible results of your hard work, as vehicles that you and your team have produced become finished vehicles on the streets in your local community.
  • As a business, we have an excellent track record of recognising talent and offering opportunities to develop. Our vehicles are becoming increasingly complex from an electrical and software engineering perspective and we would hope that we could make roles permanent in the future.
  • Career development at Alexander Dennis is not necessarily linear; so, whether you want to progress in Operations, or perhaps your interests are in Aftermarket. Either way, you’ll have plenty of opportunities available to you.
  • Many of our experienced Vehicle Builders have had the opportunity to travel the world, helping us to introduce new products in new territories, with a number of them relocating permanently.
  • As part of the USD $2.9bn NFI Group, you can be assured that there will be plenty of opportunities made available to you. This could be in the UK or any one of our global locations around the world, including Toronto, Hong Kong or Auckland.
  • On top of a competitive hourly rate of 15.24 per hour (Grade 2), pension, production bonus and life assurance cover; you’ll also receive a generous annual leave entitlement that increases with tenure.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to earn more through agreed overtime and the potential for shift work which can see your hourly rate increase by up to 25% depending on shift.
  • Normal working hours are 07:54-16:30 Monday to Thursday and 07:54-12:30 on a Friday, giving you that much needed work-life-balance. (Currently staggered start and finish times are in place to support COVID requirements)

About you:

  • Ideally you will be a time-served Coachbuilder, with a strong electrical bias. However, thereafter we would love to hear from you if you have a background and or experience as:
    • Auto-electrician
    • Time served Mechanic (light vehicle) with demonstrated occupational competence in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
    • Time served Mechanic (Heavy Goods Vehicle)
    • Time served Electrician (Fitter or Mains)
  • Due to the nature of the role, you will be comfortable reading and working from technical drawings, schematics and standard operating procedures (SOP’s). As such, you will have a working knowledge of HV/LV systems, harnesses and panel boards. Advanced testing, fault finding, and problem-solving skills would be highly advantageous.
  • Alongside your core technical electrical skills, you will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, being able to work as part of a team or on your own to a high standard of
