Job Description

ProdPad is a growing Brighton-based tech startup. We are currently looking to hire a Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function of our dynamic and growing SME. This role will provide plenty of opportunity for career development, while working towards the next stage as the company grows.

This is a part-time role, with estimated hours of between 15-25 per week. Hours could be spread over 2 - 5 days, from Monday to Friday. We are open to discussing your needs.

About the Job:

This is an exciting role for someone who is looking to take ownership of the finance function of a dynamic and growing SME. With all accounts activity currently outsourced, the in-house Finance Manager will oversee the relationship with the bookkeeper and accounting firm, while providing the appropriate reporting and Management information internally as required. This role will be seen as a key advisor to the Leadership team, arming them with the accurate financial information and guidance needed to make smart and timely decisions.

The role will include the following activities:

  • Working with the Leadership team to ensure the long-term financial health of the business.
  • Supporting strategic business and financial planning (1/3/5+ year).
  • Management information and reporting.
  • Oversight on the allocation of budget and supporting teams in the budgeting process.
  • Profit and loss forecasts, cash flow, and scenario modelling.
  • Management of investments e.g. CBILS.
  • Managing all finance and accounting operations, including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Owning the preparation of the various business line budgets, financial forecasts and report variances
  • Take on policy and asset management as relates to financials - e.g expenses, device/asset tracking, depreciation
  • Ownership of relationships with bookkeepers, accountants, and tax advisors.
  • Work with the teams above on the timely preparation of management accounts, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Coordinate with accountants for HMRC and Companies House filings, including EMI annual reporting
  • Coordinate with specialists in processing the annual Ramp;D tax credits, and other such schemes as may be relevant from time to time.
  • Coordinate with the board, accountants, and other parties as needed to support preparation and filing of regulatory reporting
  • Ability to review, analyse, and challenge financial statements
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance, for example, international tax
  • Manage month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Manage and comply with local and government reporting requirements and tax filings (UK and USA at present)
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Own relationship with core banking providers (currently HSBC and Wise). Process payments as required.
  • Manage payroll with accountants.
  • Create and own a calendar of core dates for all legally required filings, from financial to legal (e.g. VAT returns in all jurisdictions, ICO/data registrar renewals, etc).

About you:

  • You’ll have proven experience of working as a Finance Manager (or an equivalent role), with 4+ years of overall combined accounting/finance experience
  • You have a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • You have experience of working with multiple currencies, international tax, VAT/GST
  • You are an experienced accounting software user (Xero, Dext, Wise, Spendesk, Recurly, Stripe, and ChartMogul are all used in-house, so experience with any of these tools is advantageous)
  • You can give examples of when you have had to apply your critical thinking and research skills in a finance position (i.e to launch a new initiative or ensure compliance)
  • You’ll be able to tell us all about the challenges you have faced coordinating multiple stakeholders, and why you are keen to take on a stand-alone role within an organisation.
