Job Description

Location: London/Remote (GMT +/-5)

Start Date: mid-October

What does Sylvera do?

Sylvera is tackling climate change by applying cutting edge technology to quantify the carbon storage and removal capacity of land use systems (e.g. forests, soils) with unprecedented accuracy. As an immediate application this data is bringing transparency to carbon offset markets. This transparency will improve and help grow voluntary carbon markets, and hence scaling climate finance, unlocking huge co-benefits for nature and society, and contributing to the goals of the Paris Agreement.

In less than a year, Sylvera has built a partnership with NASA, secured investment from Europe’s top VC fund, and built an extraordinary team.

What will you do in the role?

As a Policy Intern you will support the Head of Policy to research key policy and regulatory developments in carbon markets and the wider climate agenda and then translate this information into actionable intelligence to help guide Sylvera’s activities. You may also be invited to help produce thought leadership in order to shape the key debates and raise Sylvera’s profile.

You will be expected to work hard and undertake some administrative tasks, but will also be a valued and key member of the team, invited to think creatively and expansively about risks and opportunities affecting Sylvera’s priorities. You will join a dynamic, highly motivated and diverse team working at the forefront of the climate / technology interface.

A permanent role following the internship is not guaranteed, but depending on performance in the role it could be a strong possibility.

What we need from you

Ideally you will have most or all of the following:

  • A deep understanding of, and ideally previous experience of working on, climate policy, forestry and land use projects, carbon markets, carbon accounting, natural capital accounting, or a closely related field;
  • Excellent research skills, including an ability to dive into complex, dense and technical policy sources to quickly extract key information whilst retaining a clear understanding of the wider context;
  • Attuned political antenna, at the UK, European, global and multilateral levels, giving you an ability to sense which way the winds are blowing and determine what this might mean for Sylvera’s policy landscape;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, including an ability to convey complex information clearly and succinctly;
  • Quantitative nous, including the ability to find, access and analyse data sets relevant to the policy team’s remit;
  • A burning passion to tackle climate change.

What if you’re a partial fit?

We prioritise grit, positivity, and the willingness to get stuck in, and encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn’t exactly match this job description.

Equal employment opportunity

Sylvera is an equal opportunity employer: we value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

London Living Wage for recent graduates; more for candidates with additional experience and/or qualifications.

Location
