Job Description

*Please note that this role can be remote (anywhere in the UK) or hybrid in our London office*

As a Senior Front-End Developer at SamKnows, you will work as part of a cross-discipline development team to build an elegant Network Performance Monitoring product. Our Network Performance Monitoring solution helps Internet Service Providers, Governments and Enterprises monitor entire networks to improve network quality and automatically spot issues.

What you will do:
  • You'll be a Senior Frontend Engineer for our Network products. You will be able to take ownership and bring new ideas to implement in our main application built with Vue.js and Typescript.
  • Work within a cross-functional product team, collaborating with the whole team to identify and create user-centric products.
  • Design and implement scalable solutions, as well as build high-quality products that work best for our users.
  • Deliver features regularly, be comfortable with ambiguity, pushing for code quality while practically balancing pace vs perfection.
What a day in the Network team as a frontend engineer looks like:

As a mostly remote team, with teammates across the UK, a typical day would start with a virtual standup to share progress with the team and collaborate to unblock any issues. There are a few other regular meetings during our 2-week sprints, such as planning, demo and retro.

We operate following a dual-track agile approach, meaning we work on 2 similar continuous streams of work at the same time called discovery and delivery tracks. As a team, we tackle discoveries collaboratively, so we can understand user problems better, and plan related work. We are self-organised and autonomous, and we think continuous improvements are important, whether it’s ourselves, our processes or our codebases.

In your day, you would have plenty of time to be hands-on coding, working on a ticket from our JIRA board, independently or collaboratively when needed. We don't do pair programming by default, but if someone gets stuck, wants some help, or just needs another opinion, the rest of the team is happy to hop on and help out. Other types of work can involve research, planning, conducting code reviews or supporting your teammates. You will also be an advocate for front-end improvements or tech debts related to the product your team owns.

As a frontend team, we meet bi-weekly to talk about architectures, improvements or anything frontend related at SamKnows.

SamKnows is very much about data and as such, the main platforms or tools you will be working on are dashboard-like applications that provide insights into a single home performance or a whole ISP network health.

We’re looking for someone with:
  • A strong technical background as a frontend developer, delivering products features and improvements, using modern frontend frameworks such as Vue or React and modern development tools
  • Experience working within cross-functional agile teams that follow lean product development best-practice and value a common-sense approach
  • A knack for creating simple elegant and practical solutions, over complex ones, by writing quality code, which is crafted to last and scale
  • The ability to jump into unfamiliar areas of the code when necessary and is comfortable working across the frontend stack to help solve all kinds of problems for our users
  • An interest in data visualisation (charts and mapping) to give users valuable insights

We know that perfect candidates do not exist. Even if not all of this applies to you, we’d love to hear from you!
