About the role

We have an opportunity to join our HR Tech start-up as our Head of People on a maternity cover for an initial 7 month period commencing November 2022.

Whilst this is a maternity cover, the current CPO is looking for someone to bring fresh ideas, perspectives and energy and not just care-take of the status quo.

The role represents a chance to work for a business passionate about enabling people to achieve their potential and find exciting, fulfilling career opportunities. Our company mission translates into a People leadership role where you are empowered and supported to make a difference - with high expectations and ambition, but plenty of support from engaged employees at all levels.

We are currently a team of around 60 employees, the People function includes 2 brilliant Talent Partners and reports to both Co-Founders. The role also forms part of the Tempo leadership team.

Specific responsibilities;

  • Talent; overseeing and driving the current hiring plan, supporting and enabling the current Talent team, hands on recruitment for executive hires as applicable (none currently)
  • Performance; working with leadership on the OKR process, managing our talent/career cycle, guiding others to resolve performance opportunities or concerns
  • Lamp;D; hands on coaching at all levels, advising managers/employees on interventions and suitable resources
  • Roadmap; working through People OKRs, driving functional goals in alignment with business needs and continual improvement ambitions
  • Reward; signing off offers/promotions with leadership, recognition initiatives
  • DEIamp;B; working alongside the committee to provide input and direction collaboratively
  • Other; flexible and ad hoc support as you may expect as the generalist in the team and lead People advisor to the business

Requirements

Your experience

  • The experience and capability to deliver the above - ideally but not necessarily gained in a relevant start-up / scale up environment - you’re not expected to be an expert in every area of HR but definitely self aware of competence and where you may need to upskill/a refresher
  • Our preference is that you are a strong generalist who can support with Talent, not someone with a specialist Talent background who can support more generally across the People domain

Your approach

  • A human, common sense, collaborative, straight talking People approach as opposed to (overly) jargony, process-oriented or inflexible
  • The ability to quickly achieve buy-in, trust and confidence from the team such that you are connected to their lived experience and can quickly form your own judgements and make an impact through delivery
  • The competence and confidence to get stuck in, keep up with the pace of the business and enable the right decisions across the board
  • The ability to engage/influence effectively - based on what is best for individuals, the team as a whole and the commercial requirements of the business
  • A generous people manager with a coaching style who can provide great support and an optimal learning experience to our Talent team
