Job Description

Jeffreys Henry is building the UK's leading tech-enabled providers of audit, tax, payroll and accountancy services to small and medium-sized businesses. Whether it's for a startup, fast-growth SME, owner-managed business or small-cap listed company, we are passionate about delivering high-quality, professional service to our clients.

We are a Top 10 auditor for listed companies, a Top 60 firm of Chartered Accountants, and have a global network of knowledgeable specialists in 75+ countries through our Morison Global alliance. What makes us unique is also recognised by our peers - we were awarded 'Specialist Firm of the Year' at the Accounting Excellence Awards 2021 celebrating our experience in AIM-listed businesses and our reputation for quality.

In 2021 we were backed by private-equity firm Tenzing which has allowed considerable investment and growth in the business. We have ambitious growth plans backed by technology and investment in people; so this is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to learn and develop in a high-growth business with excellent exposure to senior stakeholders.

Our people really do make Jeffreys Henry who we are, and we are proud to share the successes of a vibrant growing business with our people through an employee ownership plan, launching this year. See for yourself the difference you could make in an inclusive workplace where our people have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital or civil partner status, race, religion or belief, disability, age or pregnancy. Bring yourself, your perspective and differences to work.

Technical amp; Compliance

The Technical and Compliance Team is responsible for ensuring Jeffreys Henry, and any of our associated entities, conduct business in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, codes and standards issued by the regulators and standard setters. This department is instrumental in ensuring the Firm meet all necessary regulatory requirements.

You will be a key hire into this growing department, and the first team member hired to support the Technical and Compliance Partner. The Technical and Compliance team is a new team in a fast-growing company, meaning you will have significant opportunity to shape what the Technical and Compliance department looks like as Jeffreys Henry grows, and significant opportunity to take on more responsibility in your role.

Requirements

You will leverage your technical expertise across Audit and Accounts to work with partners and staff to tackle complex accounting, auditing and UK legislation matters and to advise on ongoing practice matters. In summary, your primary responsibility will be to be the firm’s first point of contact to answer technical queries, to perform technical reviews and to help issue technical guidance and training on emerging issues. You will escalate matters to the Technical amp; Compliance Partner as required, and work together to take any final decisions as it relates to risk, compliance, regulation and any other technical matters.

You will be a great fit for the role if you enjoy working in fast-paced environments, if you can operate independently and manage multiple projects at once, and if you relish working with others to resolve complex technical problems. You must also be someone who can win the confidence of partners and staff within the Firm and the Firm’s network. You will also:

  • Review the annual reports, financial statements and audit reports of public interest and listed entities to confirm compliance with accounting standards, auditing standards, company legislation and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Triage technical support requests from across the firm, and provide technical support and advice on accounting and auditing matters to the Firm’s partners and staff
  • Research, draft and respond to technical queries covering accounting, auditing and UK company law matters.
  • Develop and issue technical materials, guidance and articles for internal and external communication
  • Develop and maintain log of technical and ethical issues and responses
  • Prepare and present accounting and auditing training internally and externally
  • Update and maintain the technical content on the Firm’s intranet
  • Update the Firm’s pro-forma IFRS and UK GAAP financial statements
  • Provide firm-wide support on all AML Procedures, including as it relates to client take-on and onboarding
  • Any other duties appropriate to the grade and level of responsibility of the post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training

Skills amp; Knowledge
