About the role

We have a rare opening for a Producer - Translation and Backlist Growth to join our Story Studio team the group of producers, project managers, editors, writers, artists and designers at the heart of the company that create our very special personalised products.

Production work in the Story Studio is very multi-disciplinary. Our current producers come from diverse backgrounds including publishing, project management, product design and theatre production and use those skills to guide our creative and production processes. We understand that personalised product design is a very specialist role and we will provide training and support to whoever joins us.

We’re looking for an organised, proactive and book-loving person to join our backlist and bestsellers department a team responsible for growing, evolving and enriching our ever-expanding list of bestsellers. As our Producer for translations and backlist growth, you’ll be responsible for launching our most popular books in non-English speaking territories. You’ll oversee projects from initial market research to sign-off, product translation and website launch ensuring that the highest standards are met, on schedule and within budget. Alongside this, you will also manage freelance translators and editors. You do not need to be able to speak other languages, but you should be passionate about other cultures and the nuances of translation work.

You’ll also be integral to our backlist strategy launching updates, new formats, add-ons and editions whilst participating in workshops and research for new products. This will be a varied and exciting role!

Requirements

  • A clear passion for storytelling and children’s products that inspire and entertain
  • Ability to work autonomously to brief
  • At least one year’s experience in a busy production studio print or other media

having personally been involved in getting new things live and into the hands of customers

  • An interest other cultures, languages and the nuances of translation work (the ability to speak another language is a bonus, but not required)
  • Strong communication skills and a demonstrable ability to work collaboratively and influence people across a business
  • Strong project management skills, including excellent attention to detail
  • A knack for problem-solving and a proactive approach to finding ways to improve our daily processes and workflow
  • A good working knowledge of Google Workspace applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides) knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and basic artworking skills would be a big plus
  • Some editorial experience or an interest in developing your editorial side is a bonus

Whatever your past experience, you’ll need to be able to demonstrate your excellent project management skills across multiple projects, and a passion for books and storytelling.
