Requirements
Life as a Platform Engineer at Onto:
As we’re growing our OntoTech team so fast the underlying platform is fundamental to ensure our engineering teams can operate quickly, but also in a consistent and secure way. You will be one of the founding engineers of our Platform squad and help to set the initial direction that we follow. Each of our squads is focused on different areas of our digital product from our Internal Tooling team who build out functionality that allows our Operations and Customer Success teams to run our business to our Growth team who are focused on delivering new features to our customers. You will work closely with team members across engineering, product management, and design.
As we plan to expand the team over the next few years this role offers a real opportunity for personal growth and for you by becoming a more senior engineer or even moving into more of a leadership role. There will also be an opportunity to explore your passions with internal movement between our squads.
You will:
- Develop fast, reliable, efficient, and highly scalable applications
- Architect, test, and release new features in collaboration with Product Owners, UI/UX designers, and other engineers
- Identify and resolve scalability and performance issues
- Perform code reviews with other engineers
- Advocate for best engineering practices where needed and be familiar with security and engineering best practices
- Mentor younger engineers within your squad

For this role, you will need to have:
- Experience working with commercial AWS Platforms, ideally working in Terraform
- Proficiency in container technologies, specifically Docker
- Experience of building out development pipelines using modern CI/CD tooling (we use CircleCI)
- Basic Linux scripting experience
- Experience writing maintaining and unit-testable code
It would be a bonus for you to have:
- Experience working on micro-service platforms
- Experience with container orchestration
- Experience working with scalable databases
