Job Description

Blacktrace Group is an exciting and dynamic place to work. Focusing on Productizing Science, the group supports customers around the world in taking scientific discoveries and inventions and developing them into commercially successful products. The group’s portfolio includes a number of exciting and cutting-edge brands which develop, manufacture and globally market a variety of products and services.

The current role will be working in the Particle Works brand, which is specifically focussed on creating automated microfluidic platforms for the synthesis of nanoparticles such as mRNA-LNPs and polymer nanoparticles.

Particle Works was launched in April 2022 to create focus around the growing demand for automated systems for nanoparticle synthesis. Due to the commercial success of the brand since launching only 7 months ago, we are now looking to increase the headcount in our Applications team. Reporting to the Head of Science and Applications, the successful candidate will have a relevant scientific background and will actively work with the products we develop and sell in order to generate application specific data and content. As an Applications Scientist you will be taking an essential part in developing products and methodologies that impact the development of novel nanomedicines, vaccines, and genetic therapies in the hands of our customers.

The role will be predominantly based in the lab; however we are a commercial company and therefore there are commercial elements to the role.

We are a fun and engaging place to work so above all else candidates should be enthusiastic, willing to learn and keen to get stuck in!

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Using Particle Works’ systems to generate customer facing data to support the system performance specifications and capabilities in specific applications
  • Exploring novel particle generation applications of our automated systems
  • Development of robust protocols to aid the development and release of application specific microfluidic systems
  • Running proof of concept tests for potential customers
  • Supporting and participating in commercial activities such as webinars, conferences, web and in person demos of systems, and workshops
  • Assisting with the day to day running of the Laboratory
  • Supporting the marketing team with data and content creation relating to key applications of our systems, including documents such as experimental protocols, datasheets, PR materials, and posters
  • Testing our products in-house, to ensure they meet the customer’s expectations for performance and quality.

Requirements

Skills required:

  • A strong scientific background, e.g., at least an upper second class Master’s Degree or equivalent specialised experience
  • Experience in any of the following is highly desirable: Liposome/LNP synthesis, polymer nanoparticle synthesis, nanomedicines, gene therapy, drug encapsulation/delivery, colloidal/surface chemistry
  • Experience in practical laboratory work is essential
  • A strong awareness of laboratory health and safety processes
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • A high proficiency at writing technical and scientific documents
  • A demonstrated interest in dissemination of science and scientific techniques
  • An ability to work effectively as part of a team is essential.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Benefits

The role is based in Royston, a short commute from Cambridge and on the main train line to Kings Cross. Staff benefits include 25 days paid holiday per year (not including bank holidays), pension scheme, private health insurance, cycle scheme and a ‘green’ car scheme.

We are an Equal Opportunities Employer and we welcome applications from all candidates regardless of age, race, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity/paternity, religion or belief.

If you require any reasonable adjustments for any part of the recruitment process, please let us know.
