As the Data Governance Manager you will lead and manage business wide data governance activities, focusing on ensuring adherence to a data governance framework for data policies, standards and practices to achieve the required levels of quality; and serving as a point of escalation for governance, data quality and protection issues. The Data Governance Manager works closely with business and functional leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets, respond to regulatory and contractual requirements and support the differing requirements of the business to ensure data is being responsibly managed and protected.

As the Data Governance Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Designing and delivering a business wide data governance framework, programme and implementation roadmap for how the company can best govern and manage its data assets. To include, but is not limited to:
    • the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organisation behaviour, policies and standards;
    • improvement of data quality; and
    • Governance metrics, master data processes and related tools
  • Building and maintaining a detailed audit of core systems and information assets that are held in these systems, as well as the teams, staff and processes that use them.
  • Leading on establishing best practice and ownership of the business taxonomy and ontology, and develop rules for their use e.g. policies and procedures.
  • Implementing a Data Risk Framework to effectively manage enterprise data risk and continually assess and identify data risks in line with the business risk management approach, ensuring they are mitigated and accounted for work within the data governance programme.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with Data Governance operations, developing supporting tools/artefacts/capabilities required for effective Data Governance, e.g., responsibilities, policies, standards, processes, procedures, data quality management, KPI definition and reporting, metadata management (cataloguing, data lineage etc).
  • Understanding of regulatory considerations for Data Governance in the medical, technical and pharmaceutical industries across a variety of data sources.
  • Experience working within the information/records management discipline.
  • Experience of using cloud based applications, for example Google Workspace, O365, Box, etc.
  • Experience in developing and leading a data governance programme.
  • Knowledge of data related government (UK, US and EU) regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplined Agile and DevOps environment.
