Job Description

NLA Media Access represents the intellectual property rights of over 5,000 newspaper, magazine titles and websites from around 275 publishers, and provides data, search, and content feed services to media monitoring agencies and publishers with a database of over 70 million articles.

We are looking for a Delivery Manager to take ownership of our technology roadmap, ensuring the effective implementation of multiple, concurrent projects. You will be driven, with a positive attitude, be curious with a desire to learn, and have an ability to be pragmatic. Prior experience in Agile project management will stand you in good stead.

The NLA digital amp; tech team was previously London-based but is now permanently working remotely. Alternatively you can work flexibly at our bright and spacious head quarters in Royal Tunbridge Wells with onsite parking available and is only a 5 minute walk from the station.


Responsibilities
  • Managing the delivery of the roadmaps and establishing and agreeing best practice to improve the predictability, efficiency and quality of software delivery
  • Build an effective working relationship with stakeholders requesting delivery from the team
  • Educate business stakeholders on the benefits of agile delivery and influence their behaviour to support this delivery method
  • Provide management reporting on the delivery status of their area, balancing the requests from stakeholders for a defined delivery date with the agile delivery method
  • Monitor and assess the demands for resources and ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet the customer demands whilst ensuring effective and efficient delivery
  • Work with senior leadership of other delivery streams inside and outside of the team to negotiate and agree how dependencies will be managed and assured
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning and retrospectives
  • Liaise with the senior leadership team and key stakeholders to understand their vision, business needs, outcomes, and product roadmap.
  • Manage assigned change initiatives to ensure outcomes are delivered within agreed constraints.
  • Accountable for the stakeholder management between product managers and supporting squads relating to the project.
  • Responsible for the end-to-end delivery this includes project scoping, planning, day to day management, implementation, closure and benefit tracking.
  • Use appropriate techniques and tools to deliver the required outcomes to progress a
  • Ensure the timely delivery of short-term initiatives (where required) whilst understanding how they feed into the ‘big picture’.
  • Ensure all appropriate project kick-off steps are taken before development begins.
  • Work within programme management methodologies and governance guidelines, keeping the product / project teams aware of status and issues.
  • Create an environment whereby knowledge is shared and managed effectively.
  • Proactively manage and resolve issues, risks, dependencies and impediments that may impact the squad’s objectives.
  • Own team's processes, ensuring agile and lean approaches are pragmatically adopted and maintained
  • Coach teams and clients to enhance their agility and help them develop
  • Use appropriate metrics to track and forecast delivery, manage expectations and highlight and improve inefficiencies in ways of working
  • Work and collaborate with internal teams and on and offshore 3rd party suppliers, adapting your communications approach to meet the business demands
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • An understanding of best-practices in Project Management, Product Design, Requirement Analysis, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Automation amp; Unit Testing in a software development environment
  • Commercial experience in managing software development teams / projects, with at least 2 years being in a commercial agile environment
  • Proven capability in managing team dynamics, building team relationships, mentoring team members and delivering feedback
  • Experience in release planning, estimation, capacity planning and managing project risks in a multi Scrum environment
  • Experience with Kanban, Extreme Programming, Scrum or other lean / agile techniques
  • Management experience of full life-cycle system development with teams of developers, analysts and testers/QAss
  • A 'can-do' attitude to resolve issues and risks as well as to focus on delivery and quality to agreed timescales
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organised and strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non technical stakeholders
