Job Description

DAS Graduate Scheme

Decision Analysis Services Ltd (DAS) is delighted to launch our inaugural graduate scheme, and is now open for applications from graduates of all degree disciplines to join the business in September 2023.

Are you interested to explore critical sectors in the UK, such as defence, energy, rail, and healthcare? Do you want to test your professional skills and build new ones by working on real projects and assignments? Would you like to join a business that is proud to design solutions for some of the country’s most intricate industrial challenges? Joining DAS as a graduate management consultant would involve all this and much, much more.

About DAS

Established in 2007, DAS is an independent engineering and management consultancy operating in the Energy, Government and Defence sectors in the UK, North America, Europe, Japan, South Africa and Australasia. Our specialism is bridging the gap between strategy and operations in the fields of programme management, complex systems engineering, digital consultancy, data analytics, and asset optimisation. Our clients value the quality of our work because all DAS consultants take the time to deeply understand the holistic operating context for every project. Wholly independent of third parties, our analysis is not influenced by outside interests and puts the clients’ needs first.

What to expect

As a graduate consultant at DAS, you can expect to:

  • Train up in core consultancy skills; managing projects and stakeholders, ideation and solution development, effective communication, constructive challenge, and problem diagnosis
  • Nurture your interests; we work in a broad range of sectors and encourage our early careers team to work out what suits them. We’ll encourage you to get out of your comfort zone, too
  • Be supported; many of our consultants started out in graduate roles and understand the learning path you are embarking on. There is an internal network of genuinely supportive people to guide you in your early career
  • Work on real projects; you’ll have a range of responsibilities from day one, such as leading on an internal project to improve our business, undertaking accredited training, supporting client projects, and joining more experienced consultants on their client sites
  • See how a business runs; DAS is a transparent, non-hierarchical organisation. You’ll quickly come to understand the mechanics of how our business runs, our financial position across the year, key clients and contracts, and how we market and manage ourselves

Requirements

Degree

Successful candidates can come from any degree subject, level (BSc/MSc etc) and classification, and we encourage applicants from all walks of life. In terms of our company structure and key clients, we can offer degree-specific work to graduates from STEM and Business backgrounds given our work in engineering, organisational research, and project management.

UK Security clearance

Given our work in defence both in the UK and overseas, all DAS colleagues must obtain UK security clearance in order to join the business. DAS manages the application on your behalf once you have accepted our job offer. You can read more about security clearance here.

Skills and competencies

We’re looking for graduates who:

  • Have a commercial mindset; you understand the fundamentals of running a business
  • Use their initiative; this is a role where you come up with a solution and implement it, too
  • Communicate effectively; some days you’ll be in a 1-1 client meeting, other days you’ll be writing a white paper. You need the communication skills for both, and everything in between
  • Are lifelong learners; you want to build your skills, your career, and your professional network
  • Are open-minded; you’ll be excited to work on a range of projects, rather than spend two years doing the same thing

Benefits

Starting salary: 30,000pa, rising to 35,000pa at the end of Year 2

Location: Hybrid working pattern, though most of our clients are based near Bristol, Basingstoke, Manchester and Glasgow, so you’ll need to be near one of these areas

Annual leave: 25 days plus UK bank holidays and discretionary office closure over Christmas

Volunteering: 5 days’ leave to work on societal impact projects

Health benefits: Private healthcare, private dental, death-in-service and income protection schemes

Other benefits: Private pension, Udemy access (personal and professional development platform), personal carbon offsetting scheme
