Purpose of the role
The Technical Programme Manager will combine programme management with technical experience of leading projects to shape the effective delivery of Rail projects. This Is a new role that will work across the COO functions, working closely with the relevant Ecosystem Director in the Multipliers team and the Delivery teams.
The role will provide dedicated delivery leadership of the Innovate UK milestone programme for each ecosystem, ensuring Milestone projects deliver to cost, time, quality and reporting requirements and meet all Innovate UK milestones. The postholder will draw on the outputs and learnings from these projects to support the Ecosystem Director to scope potential CRamp;D and Commercial projects. They will provide hands-on Rail Sector programme management oversight across all relevant projects within their ecosystem, maintaining a consolidated ecosystem focused plan across all projects to aid project management (e.g. identification of efficiencies, opportunities or synergies), working in partnership with the relevant Ecosystem Director. They will also support effective project planning through working with Principal Strategists, Bid Managers and Engagement Leads to provide technical content to bids and proposals.
The successful applicant will have credible rail-specific technical expertise to the extent that they are able to manage the technical and programmme delivery of the rail milestone. They will draw on that technical knowledge to work with the Ecosystem Innovation team and Delivery teams to provide ecosystem knowledge input to develop detailed project plans.
As the role requires some project and programme management, the successful applicant will have transferrable skills in project or programme management - for example managing elements of projects, such as in the capacity of a Work Package Lead. Whilst qualifications and experience in project and programme management are desirable, training and support will be provided by the Heads of Projects amp; Programmes: Strategic Accounts and PMO.
