  • To lead the engineering development, implementation and operation of the FRESSON 1 Full Propulsion System Test Rig (Iron Bird), from cradle-to-grave; through design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and its operation as a test asset
  • To play a leading role in the FRESSON Iron Bird Integrated Project Team (IPT), working closely with the assigned Project Manager and fulfilling 2 roles in the design phase:
    • Engineering Project Lead - responsible for delivering the FRESSON Iron Bird IPT’s engineering tasks to agreed schedule and budget, defining technical deliverables, obtaining hours estimates, resolving technical issues outside the Iron Bird IPT and with other FRESSON IPTs, escalation of technical issues, agreeing engineering task owners with engineering functions
    • Technical Focal Point - responsible for guiding design decisions and resolving technical issues within the Iron Bird IPT
  • To own, develop and control the engineering requirements set for the Iron Bird, plus any requirements subsets or cascaded requirements that need to be created and issued to suppliers or other organizations
  • To coordinate the production of the FRESSON 1 Full Propulsion System Test Rig (Iron Bird)test plans and subsequent test reports based on the definitions and scopes defined in the Master Test Matrix.
  • During the Iron Bird design phase, to act as the chief design engineer for the Iron Bird, setting out the design intent, concept and architecture for the Iron Bird and guiding the Iron Bird IPT to deliver designs that align with them
  • During the Iron Bird manufacturing phase, to act as the coordinating point-of-contact for design support to manufacturing (both internal CAeS manufacturing and suppliers)
  • During the Iron Bird assembly and commissioning phase, to act as the coordinating point-of-contact for design support to assembly and commissioning
  • During the Iron Bird operating phase, to lead the Test Team

Requirements

  • Must be:
    • Experienced aerospace test engineer, with experience in the design and operation of ground test rigs for aero-engines, auxiliary power units, aircraft propulsion systems or complex electro-mechanical systems
    • With a relevant background in aerospace systems engineering or design (eg in any combination of systems engineering, propulsion system design, structural and mechanical design, avionics and electrical design or mechanical systems design)
    • Able to work effectively and collaboratively with design engineers from various aerospace disciplines, manufacturing and maintenance technicians, test rig designers and suppliers, and testing organizations/sites
    • Able to write and execute test plans, and write test reports
    • Degree-qualified (in a relevant engineering subject)
  • Ideally would also have some understanding of any of the following:
    • Hydrogen Fuel Cell Systems
    • High-Power Electric Motors (220kW)
    • Aircraft Propellers
    • Hydrogen Safety
    • Hazardous Voltages Safety
