As the Chief Engineer, you’ll be technically responsible for all Avionics and Electrical designs at Cranfield Aerospace Solutions. You will manage and provide technical leadership to a team of avionics and electrical design engineers, along with tracking and monitoring their professional development. You will be recognised as a technical expert within the field on Avionics / Electrical design and will have significant previous experience as an Avionics / Electrical design CVE across multiple projects, ensuring designs meet the airworthiness requirements.

You will report directly into the Head of Engineering Management and will be required to develop effective design solutions for your department and support project planning and business development. You will also be expected to support the ongoing recruitment and training of new staff as they enter the business.

Requirements

  • Technically responsible for all Avionics and Electrical Designs.
  • To be the company delegated authority for authoring, checking, approving, and releasing engineering reports and drawings, within own area of expertise.
  • Avionics / Electrical Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE).
  • Manage and provide technical leadership to a growing team of engineers, along with tracking and monitoring their professional development.
  • Technical expert within the field of Avionics / Electrical design.
  • Develop effective design solutions for your department.
  • Support labour, materials and schedule estimation in support of business development and project planning
  • Ability to produce aircraft installation wiring diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical, when required.
  • Specify Avionic design system interfaces compatible with the installation requirements.
  • Define equipment, components, systems, and installations specified to enable system testing, fault finding prior to installation and certification.
  • Carry out / approve aircraft Electrical Load Analysis (ELA).
  • Write / approve functional and EMC test schedules and reports.
  • Carry out / approve EWIS/EZAP assessments.
  • Advise the design office on mechanical requirements aspects of avionic designs.
  • Support the airworthiness department on the development and compliance of airworthiness documents.
  • To be member of the Part 21 DOA Office of Airworthiness.
  • Represent the company for technical audits with the CAA, or regulatory body.
  • Responsible for the update and approval of all Avionics / Electrical related company procedures.
  • Prepare, support, and manage all Avionics / Electrical company design reviews (PDR, CDR).
  • Other duties to support the company as and when mutually agreed with the Head of Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working as an Avionics / Electrical Design Engineer in a senior position for a Part 21 DOA.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as an Avionics / Electrical Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE).
  • Held delegated authority for authoring, checking, approving, and releasing engineering reports and drawings, within own area of expertise.
  • A recognised degree in Aerospace Engineering with an Avionics / Electrical background. Or, a Modern Apprenticeship in Avionic Maintenance.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or be sufficiently qualified, trained and experienced to become so.
  • Experience in managing a team of Avionics / Electrical Design Engineers.
  • Experience with dealing with the regulatory bodies on technical aspects face to face.
  • familiar with the quality procedures and working practices under ISO9001, EASA/CAA amp; DAOS approvals.
  • AutoCAD Electrical Experience in producing aircraft installation wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent customer interface and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to prioritise work and operate on multiple project
