Senior Art Editor (From 45,000 - to 47,500)

About the role

The role of the Senior Art Editor is to lead, develop and progress the design direction of the print and digital platforms for Gardening at Immediate Media, ensuring that work is produced to deadline, to the brand's standards and the requirements of the Senior Leadership team.

As a Senior Art Editor you will be responsible for;

  • Directing and contributing creative print, photographic and illustrative design ideas for the magazine and bookazines
  • Designing and developing pages for the magazine and bookazines
  • Leading the Art team to ensure layouts for print hit repro deadlines each month (main magazine and bookazine)
  • Selecting, commissioning and briefing illustrators and photographers
  • Working on covers and other key and specialist brand items as required
  • Working closely with the Content, Offers and Marketing team on visual content creation across all current and future brand platforms
  • Designing assets, and briefing asset design, across all brand platforms, print and digital to include magazine, bookazines, live events, web, app, podcasts, CRM (email) and video
  • An overall awareness and understanding of design within the Gardening and Lifestyle publishing arena and the ability to reflect and update this accordingly
  • Overseeing the freelance budget allocation
  • Directly managing the Deputy Art Editor and a Multimedia Designer(s) to support and develop your team, including annual appraisals and reviews, 1-2-1s, setting and reviewing objectives and short- and long-term career goals.
  • Managing and motivating freelance design staff
  • Building and maintaining relationships with relevant central teams within Immediate Media such as Production, Repro, Central Marketing
  • Building and maintaining relationships with brand team colleagues across content, marketing, and commerce
  • Attend relevant internal meetings with various teams including commercial, content, publishing, marketing, events
  • Work closely with content, marketing, events and other teams to ensure optimal processes are in place, work is of the highest standard and projects run smoothly at all times and any challenges are resolved as quickly as possible with minimal disruption

Requirements

  • Strong design skills showing both innovation and creativity in a consumer content environment
  • Experience of leading designers, with a supportive, developmental team culture
  • Mentoring of designers of all levels, across all disciplines
  • An innovative approach, hungry to learn and keep up to date with industry developments
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships and demonstrate that you value input and feedback and are willing to learn from others.
  • Ability to work in close collaboration with other creative departments
  • Ability to communicate visual ideas to non-art department members
  • Ability to liaise and communicate accurately and confidently with senior executives
