We seek an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead with analytical and technical expertise to support us in embedding effective EDI strategies that align with our mission and values. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director, Executive Leadership Team, EDI Working Group and EDI (Co)-Chairs, the Human Resources department and the Union; and engage colleagues across the Institute.

Principal Responsibilities

Reporting to the Managing Director, Professional Services you will:

Strategy

  • Champion an EDI culture across Chatham House, providing expertise in all aspects of strategic and operational EDI activity and providing solutions to help us deliver our aspirations.
  • Lead the embedding of equality, diversity and inclusion actions and agenda across the Institute.
  • Report EDI progress against the Mamp;E plan and agreed KPIs to Chatham House staff, Executive Leadership Team and Council.
  • Build and develop the related governance for our equality, diversity and inclusion work.

People

  • Be a source of knowledge and expertise, support and advise staff in embedding EDI principles and good practice across Chatham House activities including research, convening, engagement, communications and publications.
  • Support the Institute’s five Co-Chairs to develop key organizational initiatives specific to their strands and Chair of the EDI Working Group.
  • Engage with senior leaders across the organization on a regular basis to embed EDI commitments.
  • Work collaboratively with the EDI decision-making structures, including the EDI Policy Panel, Executive Leadership Team and Council.

  • Drive Chatham House’s approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring that under-represented groups receive equality of opportunity within key areas of the employment experience, including recruitment, progression and professional development.
  • Foster psychological safety, ensuring a culture where all groups can be their authentic selves and thrive in the workplace.

Requirements

Experience

You have/are:

  • Experience leading transformative change and organizational change management within organizations to implement and embed EDI commitments;
  • Knowledge of the equality, diversity and inclusion legislation and landscape;
  • Experience engaging with senior management teams and ideally non-executive boards;
  • Providing technical expertise on EDI to support teams;
  • Confident in managing conflict and organizational politics.
  • Working within the public or third sectors, such as in a think-tank, research institute, non-governmental organization, charity or similar;
  • Proven success in using data/insights to develop and evolve EDI strategies and programmes;
  • Experience managing projects, including setting KPIs, ensuring timely delivery and managing a budget;

Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to translate metrics, research and trends into strategy and implementation;
  • Excellent relationship management skills in particular in supporting staff and prioritizing their needs in how you conduct your work;
  • Ability to work collaboratively across an organization and with people at all levels;
  • Ability to influence others, build partnerships, and negotiate to advocate for EDI, particularly with senior stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You are a clear and persuasive communicator, able to present, positively influence colleagues across the Institute.
