We're looking for a Risk amp; Compliance Audit Manager to join our growing Internal Audit team. You'll be responsible to support Internal Audit’s strength, maturity and effectiveness.

You will support the Group Head of Internal Audit (SMF5) and deputise for them, and will be expected to present your work to the Executive team and the Board Audit Committee. You will help Starling’s senior management to protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of Starling as it continues on its growth path and delivers fantastic products and services.

You will support and report directly to the SMF5. You will also have significant exposure across Starling, including senior management and Board-level committees.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivery of the Risk amp; Compliance internal audit plan and follow-up activities, with the support of Starling’s in-house team and our co-source providers
  • Development of an effective and scalable 3LOD Risk amp; Compliance reporting framework to help the Executive and the Board challenge the controls activities of the first two lines of defence
  • Provide assurance on all Risk and Compliance processes, controls and outcomes within the first two lines of defence: from RCSA to third party risk management, the effectiveness of the ERMF, the capability and capacity of the first and second lines of defence to identify, assess and mitigate risks to within the Board’s risk appetite, and Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering processes and controls such as onboarding (KYC/KYB), transaction monitoring, sanctions compliance, the SMamp;CR regime, regulatory reporting, the Consumer Duty, Complaints, Vulnerable Customers, compliance with the FCA Handbook and much more
  • Provide the necessary support, guidance and challenge in a constructive manner to support sustainable growth and in ensuring appropriate outcomes for our customers
  • Engagement with Regulators and relevant industry bodies
  • Mentor colleagues and work as a member of the broader 3LoD team

Requirements

  • Broad range of experience within or auditing the Enterprise Risk Management Framework - ideally at another regulated firm
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory requirements within Banking
  • Relevant Compliance or Risk Management qualifications, Qualified Accountant, Internal Auditor or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, nimble yet highly regulated environment
  • Confident communicator at all levels, approachable, able to challenge in a positive manner and articulate balanced opinions
  • Some experience with audit report writing and exposure to Board Audit Committee reporting
  • Thorough understanding of the International Professional Practice Framework and the IIA’s Code for Financial Services - having been through an External Quality Assurance process a plus
